HyperProbe Work Package Leader, Prof. Ilias Tachtsidis from UCL, is proudly showcased in the Engineers gallery, an exhibition dedicated to world-changing engineering innovations and the remarkable individuals driving them. Hosted at the prestigious Science Museum in London, UK, the gallery seeks to inspire young minds to embrace engineering careers while dispelling common misconceptions about the field, providing a fresh perspective on the diverse and crucial roles engineers play.
Among the extraordinary innovations featured in the exhibition is ‘Metabolight,’ an engineering marvel crafted by a team led by Prof. Tachtsidis. This groundbreaking device employs invisible and harmless near-infrared light to identify signs of brain injury in newborns, exemplifying the transformative potential of engineering in healthcare.
Prof. Tachtsidis commented on the significance of the gallery:
“It is important to show the links between technology, engineering developments and people. The gallery manages in a very interactive way to build the story of engineering innovations, how these have impacted our everyday life and the people behind these innovations. Like in my case, how we use technologies such as LED and digital cameras to develop devices that can image the brain of infants and provide clinical information to help doctors and patients.”
The recognition of Prof. Tachtsidis’s work and past achievements is a well-deserved commendation, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to him.
