Research Fellow in Biomedical Optics at UCL

The Biomedical Optics Research Laboratory (BORL) within the Department Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at UCL is searching for candidates to join the HyperProbe project as a Research Felow. The post offers a unique opportunity to conduct developments and research at an international leading university and contribute to the developments of the state-of-the-art in biomedical optics sensing technologies and computational analytics for clinical applications. 

Prof. Tachtsidis research group is internationally recognised as a world leading laboratory in the development and translation of optical technologies to solve clinical needs. The appointed person will work in a multidisciplinary team led by Prof. Tachtsidis and work in connection with the other teams of the consortium. The work will involve both computational and experimental tasks in the context of the evaluation and validation of new Near-Infrared Instruments for neuroimaging.

Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, physics or a related subject; with the knowledge, skills and experience in optical instrument validation through phantom measurements and Monte-Carlo light diffusion simulations. Essentials are: A background knowledge of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and the physics of photon transport in tissues, experience in optical instrument validation through phantom measurements, experience in CAD software (Solidworks or equivalent) and experience in programming. Desirables are: Knowledge of the MMC/MCX Monte-Carlo software suite and Zemax optical design software.
